WANTED, 2026

WANTED is an ongoing project rooted in photographs from my high school yearbook. It examines the form and content of these conventional portraits against a backdrop of longing, obsession, and drama that defines coming of age. In WANTED, I focus on the young women and the performative aspects within each of their tiny portraits. I rephotograph them, vastly enlarging their images and reconfiguring the halftone matrix to create blurry, ill-defined, and incomplete pictures in shades of gray. WANTED builds on Andy Warhol’s historic mural, Thirteen Most Wanted Men, which was installed at the 1964 World’s Fair and featured mugshots from the New York City Police Department. WANTED also pays homage to Gerhard Richter’s Eight Student Nurses (1966), which appropriated yearbook photography, as well as to his 48 Portraits (1971-72) and their mausoleum-like installation.
